Rosewall Creek (Original version)

Rosewall Creek (Original version)

No fewer than 10 frames were exposed to capture the full range of light at this time and place. Taken from the end of the official trail in Rosewall Creek Provincial Park, the narrow confines of this canyon creek create very difficult conditions for photography when full sun is present. The range of light is impossible to capture in one frame with present technology.
The technique of multiple exposures and subsequent integration or "blending" of different parts of each frame, in order to compress the light recorded, can provide a practical solution to the reproduction of the scene.
Seven of the 10 frames were utilized in this manner, to create the illusion of reality.
Regardless of ones acceptance of this kind of "manipulation" in photography, the bottom line is that an image strongly resembling that which was evident to the eye has been enabled, otherwise, virtually impossible with traditional film imaging. Indeed, even with single frame digital imaging.
