Winter's Escape
Probably the most popular hike in the Calgary vicinity that involves elevation gain. Not only for its very accessible location year round but also a very reasonable stretch of exercise all winter as a hiking destination. Many locations offer skiing but very few offer winter hiking. This is Prairie Mountain and the view looking NW just beyond its summit. Nine times out of ten, the wind will dictate a very brief visit to this point, but on occasion, the howl subsides somewhat, enough to invite one to linger and absorb the relative silence and grand view. It's my winter escape, usually 3 times a winter. But it's always different.
