Where conditions allow, the Trillium can be found in several areas of Canada, heralding the spring arrival. The bloom is usually white. It's the only plant I know of that actually looks better and better the older it gets, typically turning from white to pink or purple, and, in a few cases, a dark red, if conditions allow. I had never seen one quite this colour before. As people hurried past on their way to see the Rhododendrons, in Bowen Park, Nanaimo, it seemed none were aware of this dying glory. Even here on this day, one could see the distortions of the three petals. But the colour was breathtaking.
I came back 4 or 5 days later, it was gone.
