Marmot Falls

Marmot Falls

This waterfall is the namesake falls of Marmot Creek situated in a narrow canyon-like valley in Kananaskis country, Alberta. There are several falls that can be viewed from a trail extending above and beyond the initial falls, Troll Falls. By far the most popular and easiest to see, Troll falls has long been a favorite destination people wanting a reasonably short yet rewarding hike in the Kananaskis region. There are in fact approximately a dozen falls if you've the mind to seek them out.
Given its relatively confined environment, the narrow valley and creek has been largely passed by, its presence largely unknown by the vast majority of the visiting public. This fact alone, probably the main reason that the main length of the creek has remained in such relatively good condition.
Sadly, the area can no longer lay claim to its previous condition as Alberta Parks has gone to considerable lengths to open up the upper area with large sprawling trails, having been purposely cut through otherwise untouched woodland, to accommodate heavier foot and wheel traffic. Such is the fate of these areas today, all in the name of "development".
