Lair of the Troll

Lair of the Troll

Marmot Canyon in Kananaskis Country, Alberta, is home to the very popular short hike to Troll Falls. The vast majority of visitors hike the approximately 2km to the main falls, take their record photo's, maybe hang around for 15 minutes then make their way back to their starting point unaware that the rest of the canyon above the main falls is home to several other very scenic falls of which this is one of them. This very tight confine is usually choked with debris. Trees, branches, logs of all sizes typically hinder the creek flow. The infamous Alberta floods of 2013 were felt equally as badly in the Kananaskis region as they were in Calgary. This creek became a raging behemoth during the flood. Most of this creek will not recover its previous beauty for many years, but this particular scene did benefit from the scouring action of the flood waters which cleaned all the rocks and removed all the debris. There's always the other side of the coin.
